Bodhisattvas keep their minds open, wide open. As they walk the path toward enlightenment for the benefit of others, this openness allows them to take all experiences and circumstances as an inspiration to develop more compassion and wisdom. As modern bodhisattvas, we can remain engaged, yet stay open; we can take up a cause, yet stay open; we can have compassion for both sides of a conflict, by staying open. The bodhisattva path can be a personal, and powerful, way to meet countless difficult situations, which we become exposed to in the interconnected modern world.
