GUNA INSTITUTE: Tibetan Translators Degree Program

Vairochana's Legacy

Bir, India

Guna Institute is in the last year of the Tibetan Translator's Degree Program. In this program students have learned the fundamentals of the Tibetan language and built upon that working knowledge through the study of classical Buddhist texts. Employing a Shedra-style format for teaching the language and texts together, Guna Institute has offered students a unique training in the Tibetan language as well as Buddhist philosophy. This class of graduates will have the opportunity to join Vairochana's Legacy, MSB's translation group, and work diligently to follow in the footsteps of the masterful translators of today in making classical Tibetan Buddhist texts available in English, Japanese, Chinese and German.

Please note, Guna Institute will begin a public teaching schedule in 2013. Please check back here or join our mailing list to stay in touch.

Guna Institute itself is a handsome two and three-story structure of six double rooms with attached bath and four single rooms with shared bath, all designed to make the extended stay of each session of the program comfortable and enjoyable for participants. With picturesque views of the surrounding village, valley and the impressive foothills of the Himalayas, students enjoy a rigorous retreat-like schedule. A spacious communal shrine room housing the Kangyur along with other important statues and texts, is where participants gather for class and practice sessions.
