Mahayana Seminar: Guided Meditations on the Four ImmeasurablesJuly 4-6, 2008 Bodhicitta, the wish to attain Buddhahood for the sake of all sentient beings, is the foundation of the Mahayana and Vajrayana vehicles. By meditating on the four immeasurables, this wish genuinely and firmly takes root, enabling the practitioner to travel the path quickly, and in the right direction. In brief, the four immeasurables are: Impartiality – having an equally kind attitude toward all beings, whether they are temporarily our “friends” or “enemies.” Love – wishing happiness and the causes of happiness for others. Compassion – wishing others to be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. Sympathetic Joy – rejoicing in the temporary and ultimate happiness of others. Rinpoche guides students through the depths of these contemplations, demonstrating, through his knowledge and example, how to develop and intensify one’s bodhi heart.
