Nyingma Summer Seminar 2012

The Three Yanas and Nagajuna's Exposition on Bodhicitta, Bodhicitta Vivarana Nama, translated by Geshe Thupten Jinpa

July 7-15
Phuntsok Choling, Ward, CO

The Nyingma Summer Seminar is a nine-day public program of study and practice that introduces the progressive stages of the path, which can be categorized into the three yanas or vehicles: the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana.

When we think of Buddhism, words like karma, emptiness, compassion and the path come to mind. But how do these all work together to take our ordinary state of mind and transform it into the awakened state? Buddhism undertakes this effort in a precise series of stages, addressing the entire scope of our confused experience - and our potential - along the way.

In this nine day seminar high in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Boulder, Colorado, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche looks at different aspects of the three yanas - or vehicles - of the Tibetan Buddhist path, the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. The lovely outdoor environment of the seminar, which takes place under our large tent, makes a perfect contemplative environment. Two talks a day, extended question and answer periods, meditation instruction and practice combine under Rinpoche's guidance to offer an experiential and philosophical introduction to how Buddhism understands our most precious assets: our mind and heart. During this program, Rinpoche conducts the refuge and bodhisattva vow ceremonies.

  • Price for nine day program: $375
  • Price per talk: $25
  • Price for live, online streaming: $275
