Nyingma Summer Seminar 2008

The Three Yanas and Lojong:  The Blade Wheel of Mind Transformation by Dharmaraksita
July 16-25
Phuntsok Choling, Ward, CO

As it’s true what I’ve said about self-centered interest,

I recognize clearly my enemy now.

I recognize clearly the bandit who plunders,

The liar who lures by pretending he’s part of me;

Oh what relief that I’ve conquered this doubt!

-- from Dharmarakshita’s Blade Wheel of Mind Transformation

During the Mahayana section of this year's seminar, Rinpoche will give the transmission and commentary for The Blade Wheel of Mind Transformation (also translated as The Wheel of Sharp Weapons), by the tenth century Indian master, Dharmarakshita. One of the teachers of the great Atisha, Dharmarakshita was renowned for considering others more important than himself. It is said that he realized the nature of emptiness by curing a dying man’s illness with flesh cut from his own thigh.

“The Blade Wheel” falls under the class of lojong, or “mind transformation,” teachings. In vivid and uncompromising verse, it describes in depth the way our foe, self-importance, causes all our suffering; and then rouses us to battle by using the weapons of wisdom and compassion.

The Nyingma Summer Seminar is a ten-day public program of study and practice that introduces the progressive stages of the path, which can be categorized into the three yanas or vehicles: the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. Refuge and Bodhisattva vow are often given during the program.

Price: $375
