Prajna - Recommended Teachings Set 3
Penetrating insight and supreme knowledge are the focus of this set of teachings. During the Madhyamika and Wisdom programs, Rinpoche gives extensive commentary on classic texts that establish the emptiness view. In How to Progress on the Spiritual Path in Modern Times, Rinpoche advises us how to integrate those wisdom teachings into everyday life. Finally, Rinpoche presents the foundational relative practices contained in the early chapters of the Bodhisattvacharyavatara. Rinpoche selected this collection of teachings to provide students with rich material to develop their insight and knowledge.
Madhyamika: Open Door to Emptiness
Vajradhara Gompa, Kyogle, NSW Australia, 2003. 10 Talks
Wisdom: Bodhisattvacharyavatara Chapter 9
In the protected redwoods of Gomde retreat center in California Rinpoche gave
these refreshing teachings on what most consider the most difficult chapter of
the Bodhisattvacharyavatara. Guiding listeners with insightful overviews and
inspiring advice, Rinpoche leads us through the detailed logics of Madhyamika
without getting bogged down. In order to accomplish this, he repeatedly refers
to the foundation of the arguments in this chapter: "If something is
emptiness, all possibilities exist. If something is not emptiness, nothing is
possible." These extensive teachings contain many delightful presentations on
related subjects, such as our drive to be extraordinary individuals being the
worst type of ego addiction, and Bodhicitta being the means to harvest the
positive qualities of one's own mind. This set of teachings is also the
original source of the important guided meditations on Absolute
Bodhicitta contained on the Bodhicitta
CD.
"People often see Dharmadhatu as a cause, with enlightenment as an effect. But
Dharmadhatu itself is the enlightenment. Enlightenment is the nature of all
mankind, the nature of everything. And a person who
realizes this no longer remains as a person. When we look in that way, we are
striving to be in sync with our own nature rather than striving to be an
extraordinary person, or someone other than who we already are. When we look
honestly, we are trying very hard to be something different,
something we are not. Any effort going in that direction is a waste. So you
have to harvest your own mind rather than look outside your mind."
Rangjung Yeshe Gome, Leggett, CA, 2007. 19 Talks on 2 MP3 CDs (One talk by Ani Pema Chodron)
How to Progress on the Spiritual Path in Modern Times
In this program, Rinpoche gives accessible
teachings on a profound topic -- the nature of absolute and relative
bodhicitta. Emphasizing absolute bodhicitta, he discusses how the whole
universe and our our consciousness are essentially an optical illusion;
when closely examined, there is nothing in our objective or subjective
world with substantial nature. Rinpoche also provides teachings on
death and a discussion of his personal experience with art as a
spiritual path. Five
talks on a single MP3 CD. Shambhala Meditation Center of NY, 2006.
Bohisattvacharyavatara Chapters 1 - 5
