Mangala Shri Bhuti Buddhist Studies Program

Each year Kongtrul Rinpoche teaches a series of public courses, ranging from the introductory to the advanced, as part of the Mangala Shri Bhuti Buddhist Studies Program. These annual programs offer students a rare education in this modern era, as the teachings asks us to question the very assumptions on which conventional life is based. Ironically, we come to discover that true happiness is often found outside these assumptions. Rinpoche offers us an opportunity to explore and deepen our understanding of the buddhadharma, and is particularly skilled in presenting the traditional teachings with keen emphasis on how to transform our modern, daily life into an opportunity for genuine dharma practice. In addition to MSB's yearly curriculum Rinpoche travels extensively throughout the world offering his support to different centers and communities, guiding students wherever there is the passion to learn. "Aim for an education that will truly serve to illuminate the darkness of your mind. An education that will be your companion in this lifetime, and will accompany you through all your future births until enlightenment."

--Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

The Nyingma Summer Seminar is an introduction to the essential views of the Three Yanas of Tibetan Buddhism, Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana, with transmission, commentary and discussion on a different text each year in the Mahayana section.

The Words of My Perfect Teacher lays the foundation for Vajrayana practice with an explanation of the ngöndro, or preliminary practices, based on Patrul Rinpoche's keystone text by the same name. The MSB Shedra develops students' understanding of the classical philosophical texts of the sutra tradition, upon which the views of the Vajrayana are based. The Dzogchen Seminar examines different essential points of Vajrayana or Dzogchen view and practice. The Mahayana Seminar offers a discussion on the fundamental Buddhist practice of bodhicitta, with special emphasis on Modern Day Bodhisattva or MDB Training. Compassion in Modern Times: Awakening the Mind, Softening the Heart is our new three day series of teachings and guided meditation on bodhicitta in New York City. Twice a year, Mangala Shri Bhuti holds a Drupcho, or group feast offering practice intensive, each for a period of eight days. Drupchos are performed for the increase of peace and spiritual practice throughout the world.

Taken together, these programs establish a broad and deep foundation of Buddhist knowledge and practice, particularly that of the Longchen Nyingthik Lineage.
