Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche at Sangdo Palri Temple

On July 27, 2015 Sangdo Palri Temple in Crestone Colorado was blessed by a visit form Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche. Adzom Gyalse Rinpoche was recognized by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as the tulku of the great Gyurme Dorje, eldest son of Adzom Drukpa Rinpoche. At present he presides over all the annual ceremonies at Shechen Monastery in Nepal and at branch monasteries in Bhutan. He also gives guidance to the monks in three year retreat in Bhutan, where he has a retreat center.

Rinpoche was given a tour of the temple and after looking at all the details, Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel invited Rinpoche to tea and asked him to say a few words to the small gathering of Samten Ling retreatants, temple workers and guests from Rinpoche’s weekend teaching retreat. Elizabeth introduced Rinpoche as family, in that we are all students of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and are all dedicated to his spiritual vision. This was Rinpoche’s first visit to Crestone and he said he was impressed at the harmonious relations of the various spiritual groups. While he was pleased to see so many different traditions in such close proximity, he also stressed the importance of sticking with one tradition and seeing it through to the end of the path. In our family tradition coming from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, he spoke about the importance of both study and practice but emphasized the need for practice. From his home in Nepal he had heard that Kongtrul Rinpoche was building a Sangdo Palri temple and expressed his pleasure for the opportunity to visit. Adzom Rinpoche said that we were all indeed family and that he planned to visit again next year - we look forward to hosting him again and again.
