Getting Off the Wheel of Suffering

Pema Chodron

Assisted by Joey Waxman

May 9-10, 2015

An Intimate Fundraiser Retreat for the Sangdo Palri Temple

We human beings are experts at creating problems for ourselves. Unless we have deep wisdom to guide us, we make the same mistakes over and over again, perpetuating our confusion. Because our unconscious habits take us around in circles, this endless routine is known as the “wheel of suffering.” The Buddha thoroughly examined this universal state of affairs and broke down the chain-like process of delusion into twelve components, known as the Twelve Links of Interdependent Origination. Studying these simple, powerful teachings can give us the clarity and insight we need to step off the wheel and into a new life of freedom, joy, and increased love for others.

Pema Chodron is world-renowned for her ability to convey the essence of the most profound Buddhist teachings with ease, directness, and humor to audiences of every description. Join Pema as she teaches us how our habits keep us spinning, and how we have the ability to stop this process at any moment by connecting with the vast, open space that is inherent in our mind. At Pema's request, Joey Waxman, a senior student will assist her in providing guided meditations and a self-reflection review.

This retreat will be held in the tranquil and uniquely intimate setting of Pema Osel, the 300-seat Buddhist center in Vershire, Vermont that was established by one of her teachers, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. In addition, the retreat will also be video streamed live.

This Is a Fundraiser Retreat

Ani Pema has graciously offered to use all proceeds of this program as a fundraiser for constructing the Sangdo Palri Temple of Wisdom and Compassion in southern Colorado. According to Tibetan tradition, Sangdo Palri is the residence of Padmasambhava, one of the greatest figures of the Nyingma lineage. But in essence, this temple is a physical representation of our own enlightened nature, a place where the blessings of awakened mind are vivid and transformative, and from where positive energy will radiate throughout the world, benefiting countless living beings. Learn more about the Sangdo Palri Temple project.
